Working History: Adrienne Horne

After obtaining her Master’s degree in Anthropology, Adrienne Horne completed a practicum at Calgary’s Glenbow Museum, where she helped Aboriginal students create their own exhibit. Since then, Adrienne has had a variety of contract and permanent positions at the Glenbow and is now the Regional Project Manager for the Western Corridor War of 1812 Bicentennial Alliance in Ontario.

“The Western Corridor Alliance is the seventh region in the province created to commemorate the war,” Adrienne explains. “My job is to help people in the region coordinate their efforts to commemorate the bicentennial for the War of 1812.”

As Regional Project Manager, Adrienne finds herself travelling a lot, visiting sites, and even meeting descendants of those involved in the War of 1812, which is her favourite part of the job.

“There’s a real connection not only to family personally but as a country and a nation,” Adrienne says.

With several years of experience behind her, Adrienne had some tips for young professionals looking to work in the heritage industry.

“You have to go in as a volunteer and prove yourself,” she advises. “You have to be willing to do anything and try anything and be a go-getter.”
