THEN/HiER

Last weekend, Halifax was abuzz with history teachers, historians, and museums professionals attending a highly collaborative conference. On October 27-29, 2011 the Graduate Student Committee of The History Education Network/histoire et éducation en réseau (THEN/HiER) hosted “Imagining Gateways: Collaboration and Innovation in Teaching and Learning History.”

“Imagining Gateways” was a free, 3 day event featuring presentations, tours, and talks for anyone interested in exploring themes and issues in history education. The conference was put on in collaboration with the Nova Scotia Social Studies Teachers’ Association and The Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21, and events took place in several different locations throughout the city.

You can read more about the conference in our guest blog by conference attendees Stephanie Power and Caitlin Johnson. Stephanie and Caitlin share their experiences, knowledge, and reflect on what was gained from the conference and what work still needs to be done. Thanks Stephanie and Caitlin!

Before the conference, we also spoke to Samantha Cutrara from THEN/HiER to learn more about “Imagining Gateways.” You can listen to the podcast below.
