In 1994, the Hudson's Bay Company donated its corporate archives to the then–named Provincial Archives of Manitoba, and its museum collection to The Manitoba Museum, both public institutions. These gifts earned a substantial tax saving, most of which was put to work in the name of history by establishing the Hudson's Bay Company History Foundation. The Foundation, in turn, provides core funding to ensure the maintenance of the Company's gifts and to support the initiatives of Canada's History.
The Department of Canadian Heritage contributed towards Kayak. Funding helps to connect Canadians from coast-to-coast by offsetting the cost of reaching readers so that the subscription costs are the same anywhere in this vast country, Canadians can overcome geographic distances and communicate their ideas and opinions through print.
Canadas History Online would not be possible without the generous support from Canadian Heritage. They are also supporting the expansion of our national awards program.
TD's involvement with the Governor General's Awards began in 2006. They provide funding to support the cash gifts to recipients and their schools, defray some of the expenses for the awards ceremonies, and nurture the long-term development planning. We are grateful for their support and encouragement to history teachers across Canada.

Quite simply, Great-West, London Life and Canada Life aim to make a broad impact for the long term, summed up in their corporate giving philosophy of Stronger Communities Together™.

They enable Canadians to better understand the story of their country and of their fellow citizens. Through its services to researchers and government, its exhibitions and other initiatives, the Library and Archives seeks to connect Canadians to the sources of these stories.

Nexen believes the long-term prosperity of business is dependent on the economic and social conditions of the communities where it operates. Nexen truly believes it is important to respond to the community needs of its employees, shareholders and neighbours. To us, it simply makes good sense for business to take an active interest in, and identify with, the communities where we operate — whether it's supporting the arts, the United Way, the environment or the education of our youth.
The McLean Foundation was established in 1945 by the late Mr. J. S. McLean, with subsequent gifts and bequests by other members of the family. Considering appeals from a wide spectrum of non-profit organizations (the Arts, Education, Conservation, Health and Welfare), the foundation endeavors to maintain a flexible policy for its recipients, with particular emphasis on projects showing promise of general social benefit but which may initially lack broad public appeal. This year, the McLean Foundation is providing general support for Kayak.
