Spend the weekend of May 19-21, 2012 at Fort Wellington National Historic Site kicking off War of 1812 Bicentennial commemorations with period encampments and military demonstrations.Saturday, May 19, 2012
Join us to celebrate the Grand Opening of Fort Wellington’s new Visitor Centre and be the first to view the new exhibits and displays, including an 1812-era gunboat wreck.

Sunday, May 20, 2012
Enjoy our 1812 evening Speaker Series by author Dianne Graves on women in 1812 while savouring the tastes of an historic 1812 dinner menu.

Monday, May 21, 2012
Throughout the day, continue to explore the new visitor centre and 1812-era gunboat display. Discover the features of the historic fort, watch historic demonstrations and take part in family fun.

Highlights Include

  • Witness Fort Wellington come to life with military re-enactors living authentically in the barracks and participating in historic weapons demonstrations and battle re-enactments
  • Taste period recipes cooked over an open fire using traditional techniques
  • Be escorted on a journey back in time by a solider or his wife who will share exciting tales of the fort’s past
  • Participate in family activities and a children’s mock battle
