From the Ashes of War, the Birth of a Nation: An Event to Commemorate the War of 1812 at Fort York National Historic Site

The Senior College of the University of Toronto and Fort York National Historic Site present a one-day commemorative event. Immerse yourself in 1812 — enjoy the food and fashion of the period and 1812 music.

Historian Carl Benn will open the day with an overview of the war, followed by presentations by historians and cultural scholars. Topics include literature and music inspired by the war, the battle of York, the participation of women in the war and the contribution of Aboriginal peoples. The day will conclude with a panel discussion on the significance of the war for Canada, the United States and the world.
