The deadline to apply for the 2018 Vimy Pilgrimage Award has passed. Information on the 2019 Vimy Pilgrimage award will be posted here in September, 2018.
The Vimy Pilgrimage Award recognizes the actions of young people who demonstrate a commitment to volunteer work through outstanding service, positive contributions, notable deeds, and bravery. Their acts may have served their peers, school, community, province or country. Scholastic achievement is not a criterion for this award.
The Vimy Pilgrimage award consists of a fully funded, week-long educational program in Belgium and France, to study Canada’s tremendous First World War effort. The program, scheduled for April 2-10, 2018, is organized by The Vimy Foundation and features daily visits to important First World War sites including museums, cemeteries, and historic battlefields. A total of 20 students will be selected for the 2018 program.
Applicants are required to submit an 500-word essay on the question posted on the application page, a 500-word motivation letter outlining the reasons why they merit the award, a resume, and a reference letter from a teacher, guidance counselor, principal, service club, or volunteer organizaiton. In choosing Award winners, the Award Committee will take into consideration all elements submitted for the application including the enthusiasm and intent illustrated in the motivation letter.
