Naval Officers Association of Canada
After the First World War a number of Naval Officer Associations sprang up to maintain the camaraderie derived from service to Canada at sea in the Royal Canadian Navy.
The Naval Officers Association of British Columbia, for example, is celebrating its 90th anniversary in 2009. After the Second World War the various associations decided to band together, and the Naval Officers Association of Canada was incorporated as a notfor-profit organization on May 23rd, 1950.
The Naval Officers Association of Canada sponsored this Canadian Navy Centennial Essay/poem/art contest as part of the Navy Centennial year. A winner from each province and one representing the Territories was chosen. Funding was provided by the NOAC Endowment Fund, twenty one municipalities from Esquimalt to St. John's became sponsors, as did ING DIRECT, WestJet, Projeny Inc., SNC.Lavan and UNTD.
