The Governor General’s History Awards are administered by Canada’s History Society and celebrate the very best in Canadian achievements in the field of history and heritage.

The Awards recognize exceptional contributions to our understanding of Canadian history in the following categories:

Governor General’s History Award for Excellence in Community Programming, presented by Canada’s History Society with the support of Spectra Energy

Governor General’s History Award for Excellence in Museums: History Alive! presented in partnership with the Canadian Museums Association and with the support of Ecclesiastical Insurance

Governor General’s History Award for Popular Media: The Pierre Berton Award, presented by Canada’s History Society

Governor General’s History Award for Scholarly Research: The John A. Macdonald Prize, presented in partnership with the Canadian Historical Association and with the support of Manulife Financial

Governor General’s History Award for Excellence in Teaching, presented by Canada’s History Society with the support of TD Bank

 

Student Awards

Canada’s History Society also offers the following student awards:

Aboriginal Arts & Stories, presented in partnership with Historica Canada, with the support of Enbridge
